A:Solar electric (photovoltaics) and solar thermal panels can be mounted on building roofs as well as mounted on the ground. Mounting panels and appearance have changed dramatically over the last decade - and all types of solar panels are mounted flat atop a roof. Regarding solar thermal installations, innovations include lower profile, framing colors and neater installation runs of piping, etc. .Regarding photovoltaics installations and products, innovations include flexible solar roofing shingles, peal and stick panels for metal-seamed roofs, pv panels looking like roofing tiles, photovoltaics on foam blocks that snap together in a tongue-and-groove fashion, and other racking and installation innovations. Solar installations can be made very aesthetic looking similar to traditional building skylights, and on many roofs, cannot be seen from the street.
