ISN’T CLEAN ENERGY TECHNOLOGY MORE EXPENSIVE?

A:Clean energy is cost-effective in many applications. For remote power beyond the electric power lines or natural gas pipelines, in most cases clean distributed energy systems are less expensive than extending electric wires and piping. For building-based energy, clean-distributed power also provides back-up power or power quality systems that are very competitive. Solar water heating and ground-coupled heat pump systems are absolutely cost-competitive and positive cashflow if financed through a mortgage or longer term business finance mechanism. Electric power augmentation is cost-effective in offsetting higher rates that are either seasonal, time of day (peak power) or reducing ‘demand charges’ - and those determinations need to be made on a case-by-case basis.
